The purpose of this assignment is to gain detailed knowledge on preparing a policy advocacy plan in support of various sectors. The plan brings together concepts of micro, mezzo, and macro level advocacy practices. It helps to understand various tools and strategies that can be used in policy advocacy.
Based on readings, and research undertaken throughout the semester, develop a policy advocacy plan in support of one of the following issues: a health/mental health related issue, gerontology, child and family issues, or immigration issues. You will develop a plan that can be used to advocate to policy makers and other stakeholders in support of a legislative action. Discuss your advocacy goal and the objectives towards reaching that goal. That is,
• Clearly identify stakeholders and why each is included.
• Explain your strategies that you will use for advocacy with each stakeholder. Provide examples of tools that you will use to advocate for change with at least two sets of stakeholders. For example, you may prepare a testimony to present to legislators. You might prepare a set of amended regulations to present to administrators. You may bring testimonials about client stories to the stakeholders.
• Assess how this legislation, if implemented will impact your practice, your clients’ lives, and social and economic justice.
• Write a maximum 500-word letter to send to an elected official or major newspaper editor to advocate for this policy. Attach the letter as an appendix to your paper.
Submit your answer in a 3 page paper. Title page is required and be sure to cite your sources; follow APA 7th edition formatting guidelines in organizing your paper. Upload your assignment as a word document.
