Final project is being a curator / curating a show. The idea behind this is that often times people working, or studying, in the intersections between art and theory often end up working as curators or operating in some way in that context. What you need to include in your proposal:
Core concept – may be helpful to think of this as what will become your thesis statement in your paper.
Include an initial shortlist (or final list if your heart’s already settled) for the artworks you will be curating.
List any resources or inspiration. Think of it as a kind of theory moodboard, so to speak, if that helps. But main thing is: core concept/thesis + [short]list of works.
Below are my proposal of my final essay
My concept is all over about the unusual. Maybe “unusual” is “usual.” By researching Nietzsche, you can be out of alignment with what society sees as the norm by being unusual. You may be misunderstood for a long time, but eventually, people will see what your extraordinary life was trying to depict. This concept of being misunderstood is shown when Nietzsche believes his work will be understood decades later in 2003. Although a highly dark and pessimistic way of looking at life, Nihilism insists that one must find their true purpose and be unique. Nietzsche believes that one’s life should have intrinsic values and a person should be brave enough to live life in the way they understand. Living a life the person understands frees the person from following in their parent’s footsteps. Living with this philosophy ensures one is not obligated to make their life a prequel of their children’s life or a pleasing party for their friends. In a way, Nietzsche’s philosophy aims to make life self-fulfilling and actualize rather than fulfill society’s expectations.
If you don’t know already, I think something you could look into is The New Weird, it’s considered a literary genre, starting about 30-20 years ago already, but I think there’s kind of comeback or renewed interested and production these days. Your interest in Addams family and the “unusual” reminded me of this.
This might offer inspiration to also experiment with your own writing style. How might you make the writing itself a bit more “unusual” to conceptually interlace with the works you are making.
Please finish this essay by follow the theme “Unusual”
Read my proposal, and you can find list of art pieces that represented unusual. Also follow the professor’s feedback.
