These questions are designed to guide you in examining the fit of one of the methods discussed in class for a dissertation topic you are currently considering. This is not a scholarly paper. You may simply write out each question and write a short narrative response (not just notes or bullet points). Please specifically describe how particular videos or readings may have influenced your thinking in the text of your answers. You are not required to provide a reference. Final Worksheet Questions: 1) What research question seems to be presenting itself now? How is the research question served by this method? 4) What inclusion and exclusion criteria will be important in considering who the participants should be if this is a participant-based method, or what types of texts will be examined if it is a text-based method? 5) If the method is participant-based, how and where might participants be sampled? What considerations should be taken into account for identifying and screening them? OR—if text-based (., publications; case files; archived interview transcripts; artifacts), what library, archival, field-based or other sources are applicable? How might access be gained? 6) What cultural considerations may need to be taken into account for researching this topic or working with this population? 7) What ethical considerations present themselves for doing research with this population and method and how can you ensure safety and respect for participants, or for groups represented in text-based work? 8) What preliminary interview or focus group questions would you include in the inter-view guide if using a participant-based method?
